Testimonials

From Orton Gillingham Fellows

Pledger Fedora, Ph.D., F/OGA

"Cindy is certified by the Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Associate level. She is a highly trained, experienced Orton-Gillingham practitioner. Cindy has a genuine and strong interest in supporting individuals with dyslexia or those struggling with learning to read. Further, she has the training, skills, and experience to meet the needs of such individuals.

While teaching a course entitled Multisensory Phonics at Manhattanville College, I personally witnessed her dedication and ability to reach and teach about the multi-faceted aspects of teaching struggling readers to college level students studying to be future teachers."

Eileen Tresansky, Accredited Training Fellow/OGA, IDA Certified Dyslexia Therapist

"I have worked with Cindy Deubel since 2015 as one of her OGA Supervising Fellows. She has always been an enthusiastic learner who wants to strengthen her skills and talks openly about her reflections on how to improve her lessons. Cindy’s manner is calming but directed. She always greets her students with a smile on her face. She is a very dedicated individual who works diligently to provide detailed lessons that are designed just for the student she is presently working with.

Over the years I have been advising her, Cindy has developed a diverse bag of strategies to use. She has now taught beginning readers to middle school writers. Her activities are engaging and explicitly taught to reinforce concepts recently introduced. Her students are lucky to have such a devoted and passionate educator who values her work and enthusiastically continues to improve her structured literacy techniques."

From Parents

Pam, North Salem, NY

“I am so incredibly grateful to have found Cindy. After 3 lost years in school, we finally found someone who listened to our needs and was able to help. My daughter went from a second grader who would cry when being asked to read, to a confident rising sixth grader who can read chapter books. Cindy is thoughtful, caring and dedicated. I would absolutely recommend her.”

Anna, Greenwich, CT

"Cindy worked with my daughter from fifth grade through 12th grades! It is not common to find and then be able to hold on to a specialized tutor over the course of such a run, but Cindy made it work, and proved her devotion, flexibility, and talent in being able to reach and teach my daughter who was diagnosed with dyslexia in fourth grade. I was told to look for an Orton Gillingham tutor and found Cindy. She always came very prepared and on time consistently throughout all those years. Cindy was very generous with her time and knowledge and absolutely helped me navigate my daughter’s middle and high school years.

Cindy is an extremely knowledgeable and effective Orton Gillingham trained tutor, and really taught my daughter to read. As my daughter’s reading assignments in middle and high school became more complex, Cindy understood the importance of breaking down an assignment, and was always able to create a more manageable task for my her. Cindy often accompanied me to her IEP meetings and was able to not only counsel me regarding my daughter’s reading needs, but also advocate herself, at these meetings, by providing very viable suggestions.

Cindy is simply a very caring person. She fully understands the complexities of teaching and raising a child with learning differences, both in heart and mind. I was very fortunate to have found her when I did. Cindy was as committed to ensure my daughter's success as I was. She was patient and persevered through challenging assignments. I felt that she and my daughter were on the same journey. Cindy also helped her build her confidence and self-esteem. She was priceless in helping her reach her academic potential."

Kara, Wilton, CT

"Cindy Deubel has been a lifeline for our son over these past three years, particularly throughout the pandemic! She demonstrated exemplary flexibility and dedication to his individual needs and took a comprehensive and diagnostic approach to ensuring that he made steady progress.

Her ability to collaborate effectively with every member of his school team to ensure integration and transference of skills across all academic content areas among our teaching and learning teams was impressive.

Her professional integrity and knowledge of the structured literacy approach is vast. Our school-based teams respected and welcomed her insight, expertise, and knowledge of our son's multifaceted learning needs. She went above and beyond to form collaborative partnerships among all to ensure his academic, social, and emotional success. We are so very grateful to have found her!"

From Students

Madeline, 6th Grade

“Cindy is not just a teacher, she is a friend. She gets to know you. I miss her over the summer and I am excited to see her when it’s over. I like telling her about my day. She teaches in a way that is fun and helps my mind to remember.

Most websites will say that they are making learning fun, but they don’t. Cindy really does find fun ways to do it. When I started with her, I basically didn’t know how to read and now I have read my longest book ever.”
